THE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMICAL EFFICIENCY OF SETET FISHING UNITS AND ITS DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC IN MUNCAR BANYUWANGI

Abstract

Setet nets is small scale fishing gear traditionally used by fishermen for catching sardine. Fishermen in Muncar have a lack of knowledge to estimate production inputs to produce optimum technical efficiency and economical efficiency. The purpose of this research is to decide technical efficiency and economical efficiency of setet fishing units and its development strategic in Muncar. Technical data such as fishing unit, description of fishing gear, and fishing ground was processed by scoring method. The research indicated that technical efficiency of setet nets in Muncar depended on the season. The highest efficiency of setet fishing unit was obtained by fishing unit which operated 7 pieces, operated by 3 GT fishing vessel with engine power of 16 PK, 2 fishermen, and BBM consumed of 1767 liters per year. In term of economical efficiency the highest efficiency obtained the profit of IDR43 476 209 per year, R/C 2.97, and ROI 138.8%, payback period 8.64 month, respectively.
